What a quick move that has been made to "Barbarella." Just days after producer Dino De Laurentiis' announcement of the flick, Peter Webber is reported to have signed on to helm the project, a new version of the 1968 flick featuring Jane Fonda in the title role.

Described by De Laurentiis as "Female James Bond -- in outer space", the picture is intended to be "a completely new 'Barbarella'" which will have "love, sex, adventure" as the heroine commences her journey. Filming will be carried out later this year at Morocco's CLA studios.

Webber, a self-confessed cinephile, first worked as a film editor before gained prominence for his 2003 directorial effort in "Girl with a Pearl Earring." "Barbarella" will be his next directing stint he works for De Laurentiis after "Hannibal Rising" which opens this Friday, February 9.
