Heavy metal veterans Megadeth have turned to an online community of artists to redesign their longtime mascot, Vic Rattlehead

AceShowbiz -

Heavy metal band Megadeth is launching a contest. Intended to redesign their longtime mascot, Vic Rattlehead, a skull with jaws wired shut, steel visor and metal earplugs, the band's founder, singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine ran into licensing issues with the artist who originally drew the mascot in the early 1980s based on his idea.

"I'm just looking for somebody to revamp it," Mustaine explained while adding "I'm looking for a surprise. I'm open to them having their way with it."

And thus the contest, launched on Internet site deviantART (https://www.deviantart.com), is started and will be closed on February 14. From the total 2 million members who post photographs, traditional and digital art, and even poetry on the site, Mustaine will only pick thee winners, all of whom will receive one of his signature series ESP guitars. Shortly thereafter the new mascot will appear on band merchandise and will grace the cover of Megadeth's next record.
