In the summer of 1993, teenager Cameron Post finds her life upended after she is caught in a compromising moment with another girl in the backseat of a car. Sent away by her conservative guardians, Cameron, portrayed with a quiet resilience by Chloë Grace Moretz, finds herself at "God's Promise," a remote conversion therapy camp aimed at curing her of same-sex attraction. Under the watchful eyes of the camp's devout leaders, Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother, Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.), Cameron is pressured to conform. Yet within this oppressive environment, she forges unexpected alliances with fellow residents, including the rebellious Jane Fonda (Sasha Lane) and the stoic Adam Red Eagle (Forrest Goodluck).
