Blending elements of trance, Eurodance, and house, the group became synonymous with the vibrant European club scene of the era, crafting instrumental tracks that frequently featured soaring, emotive vocal samples and achieved massive crossover success. The group was formed in 1995 by producers Sascha Lappessen, Ralf Kappmeier, and Thomas "Alisson" Lüdke, operating under the stage names Sascha, Ralf, and Tokapi, respectively. Their chosen name, SASH!, was derived from Sascha's nickname. They quickly found their footing with the 1997 release "Encore Une Fois," a track that became an instant phenomenon across Europe.
