Crime Mob Biography

news-detailsEmerging from Atlanta's vibrant hip-hop scene in the early 2000s, Crime Mob became a defining force in the crunk movement, best known for their explosive, anthemic single "Knuck If You Buck." The group, formed in 2004, consisted of six members: M.I.G., Cyco Black, Princess, Lil' Jay, Diamond, and Killa C, creating a dynamic collective that blended aggressive raps with energetic production. Their raw sound and unapologetic style captured the essence of Southern hip-hop during its peak, earning them a dedicated following and a lasting place in the genre's history.

Crime Mob's breakthrough arrived swiftly with their self-titled debut album in 2004, which was anchored by the massively popular singles "Knuck If You Buck" and "Rock Yo Hips." "Knuck If You Buck," in particular, became a cultural phenomenon, a staple at sporting events and clubs that transcended regional boundaries to become a national street anthem. The track's aggressive call-and-response energy defined the group's early identity and solidified their status as hitmakers. Following this success, the group experienced a significant change when member Killa C departed after an arrest in 2003, prior to their mainstream breakout, though the group continued as a quintet.

The group released their second album, Hated on Mostly, in 2007, which would prove to be their final studio project as an active unit. Despite the album's release, the collective effectively disbanded around this time, with members pursuing individual paths. For several years, Crime Mob existed primarily as a influential memory from a pivotal era in Atlanta music. However, in 2012, a partial reunion occurred when most of the members, with Princess being the notable absence, performed at Atlanta's Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash, reminding fans of their potent stage presence.

A more complete and unexpected reunion materialized in 2018, orchestrated by acclaimed Atlanta-based producer Mike Will Made It. He brought all six original members of Crime Mob together for a new song titled "We Can Hit," which also featured Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd. The track was included on the official soundtrack for the film Creed II, marking a significant return and introducing their signature sound to a new generation. This collaboration served as a testament to the group's enduring legacy and the lasting impact of their contributions to the hip-hop landscape.
