Andy Mineo Biography

news-detailsAndy Mineo, born Andrew Aaron Mineo on April 17, 1988, in Syracuse, New York, is an influential American hip-hop artist, producer, and creative director known for his dynamic contributions to Christian hip-hop. His career, marked by a blend of sharp lyricism, innovative production, and entrepreneurial spirit, made him a central figure in the genre and a founding member of the prominent Reach Records collective 116 Clique. Mineo first gained significant attention with his major label debut album "Heroes for Sale" in 2013, which solidified his reputation as a compelling voice in music.

His artistic journey began in his youth at Henninger High School in Upstate New York, where he worked as a producer and joined the hip-hop group Fat Camp, which was signed to Syracuse University's Marshall Street Records. After relocating to New York City, Mineo experienced a profound personal and spiritual shift, leading him to re-dedicate his life to his faith. This pivotal moment prompted him to close his production studio and restart his career with a new focus. He independently released his first mixtape, "Sin is Wack," in 2009 and became involved with the T.R.U.C.E. outreach program founded by Nicky Cruz, where he forged lasting creative partnerships with figures like Alex Medina, Wordsplayed, and Rich Perez.

A major breakthrough came through his collaboration with Alex Medina on the track "Background," which was featured on Lecrae's acclaimed "Rehab" album. This connection served as his introduction to Reach Records. After building momentum with the 2011 single "In My City," featuring Efrain from Doubledge, and rebranding from his earlier moniker C-Lite, Mineo officially signed with the label. He released the "Formerly Known" EP, followed by his impactful debut studio album, "Heroes for Sale," on April 16, 2013. His creative output continued with the 2014 EP "Never Land" and his introspective sophomore album, "Uncomfortable," in 2015.

Beyond his solo work, Mineo established himself as a versatile producer and director. His production credits include work on his own projects and significant contributions to other artists, most notably co-producing the track "Power Trip" by Lecrae (featuring Mineo, Derek Minor, and Sho Baraka) from the Grammy Award-winning album "Gravity." He also directed and co-directed numerous music videos and developed video series like "Saturday Morning Car-Tunez" and "League Chumps Season 1." Entrepreneurially, he founded his own creative initiative, Miner League, through which he signed artists like Wordsplayed and Willow Stephens. The label partnered with Reach Records to release the collaborative mixtape "Andy Mineo & Wordsplayed Present Magic & Bird" in 2017. After more than a decade, Mineo departed Reach Records in September 2024 to fully focus on steering his independent Miner League venture, continuing to expand his influence as an artist and executive shaping the landscape of hip-hop.
