Molly meets her literary idol, a bitter, alcoholic recluse named J.C. Small. After J.C. is bribed with booze into reading something of Molly's, she tears it apart and tells Molly to dig deeper and write about the stuff from her own life she doesn't want people to know. Molly's examination of her childhood leads her to believe she's been living in a house of lies. Meanwhile, Mike is worried that his mom is depressed and invites her over to the Flynn's for dinner to get her out of the house.
