This episode takes place from June to December 1944. In June, Frank tells Charlie the army is lying to him and all the scientists on the hill but Charlie doesn't believe him. As punishment, Darrow enlists Frank in the army and he's station on the hill but is forbidden to see Liza. Frank is determined to get back in the lab. Frank convinces Helen to help him get back into the lab. Frank secretly sees Liza and because of this, Darrow sends Cole to the front line. Abby has trouble with the pregnancy. During the six months, Frank figures out the solution to the problem that Charlie hasn't been able to solve and slips a note to Oppenheimer. In December, Frank, Crosley and Fritz are forced to talk to Lorentzen for his article. Lorentzen questions each of them about the events of the past six months. Lorentzen confronts Darrow about how Darrow manipulated the events of the last six months because he knows the army will eventually need Frank back. However, Lorentzen isn't including this in his book. Frank feels responsible for Cole.
