After seven-year-old Hector Rodriguez's murder case was reopened in 2012 during a kidnapping investigation, the suspect in both cases - Lewis Hodda (Tom Sizemore) - is finally going to trial. However, he refuses to plead guilty, swearing that Lt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) coerced his confession. ADA Rafael Barba (Raul Esparza) wants to go to trial with the kidnapping of Wyatt Morris, but Wyatt's parents don't want their traumatized son to testify, despite Delores Rodriguez's wishes to put her son's killer behind bars. Det. Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino), who's a law student by night, shadows Barba on the case. And nursing some desperate ambitions of his own, Stephen Lomatin (Alex Karpovsky), the aspiring cop who helped SVU locate Hector's body in 2012, meddles in the investigation.

Defense lawyer Lisa Hassler brings FBI shrink Dr. Huang (B.D. Wong) to testify for the defense, much to SVU's dismay. When Hassler questions Lomatin about his obsession with the case and asks point-blank if he murdered Hector, he refuses to respond. Eventually, the jury announces they've reached a deadlock, and the judge declares a mistrial. It seems hopeless for Delores, but Wyatt's parents finally decide to step up and testify against Hodda.

Meanwhile, Det. Fin Tutuola (Ice T) takes Det. Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) to the hospital, where she goes into labor. Suddenly she starts hemorrhaging, and the baby's heart rate begins to plummet. Will Rollins and the baby survive?
