When Hank forces Maddie to take a job at an ice cream shop, his daughter cons him into joining her. Sweet!

Maddie wants a new computer and Tilly tells her it's coming "soon." Hank begs to differ. He suggests that Maddie get a part-time job so she can buy herself a new computer. He says he learned the value of a dollar as a stock boy at the Piggly Wiggly. Yeah, that story's not really inspiring Maddie to enter the workforce in their new Virginia home. She's still freaked out by the fact that she's now saying things like "y'all."

Tilly doesn't think it's a good idea for Maddie to get a job. She wants her to settle into her new surroundings a bit more first. Since Maddie is still adjusting to her new life, Tilly explains that when she's says "soon" it's only to placate their daughter. It's like those days when they used to go to the Hamptons and Hank wanted to sneak off and "do it on the beach." Tilly always said they would...soon. Now Hank gets it. "Soon" means never.

Grady and his way-too-cheery wife, Dawn, help set up for the big sale. Seeing how his once high and mighty brother-in-law has been reduced to hawking household items, Grady takes it upon himself to offer Hank a part-time job as bookkeeper for his construction company. Hank scoffs at the idea as he tells Grady about the Hank Pryor Express which, of course, means he will NOT be taking a ride on the Grady Funk Supercoaster.

Tilly runs into a couple of girls she knew from high school. When they ask her what she's up to, Tilly is at a loss. She's not up to anything. Tilly asks Grady if she could do the bookkeeping job he offered Hank. Since she gotten B's in math, she's more than qualified. It seems Funk Construction doesn't make enough money for the math to be hard. Tilly is thrilled to take the job. After 20 years on the sidelines, she's psyched to get in the game.

Maddie tries to convince her boss to give her dad another chance, but it's a no-go. She comes home later with her first paycheck in hand. Hank is so proud of his daughter. And even Maddie seems to be proud of her achievement. Hank thanks his little girl for standing up for him at the ice cream parlor. She says, "Oh, well, you know... you're my dad."

This touching little father-daughter exchange gave us all a little lump in the throat that was quickly pushed out by a laugh, as Hank tries to hide his tears by meekly saying, "Don't look at me." It's moments like this that have us feeling the next episode of Hank can't get here soon enough.

You do realize that when we say "soon" it's the good "soon" and not Tilly's deal, right?
