When a dead body floats to the surface of a mud bath at Alan Quinn's spiritual retreat, the CSIs believe the victim, Eric Wade, an employee of a massive drug company, was murdered via drowning. Further investigation reveals Wade died after a massive allergic reaction to inhaled latex, which is explained when the team finds charred remnants of latex pills made by his company in the coals of Quinn's popular "hot coal walk". The CSIs then learn that Wade and a colleague were using company chemicals to manufacture their own drugs, which they trace to a deserted house with a destroyed meth lab. While there, they find Wade's wife hiding in a broom closet, and it is revealed that she has a rare disease that required Wade was trying to combat with drugs he was making on his own. Blood residue left at the destroyed leads back to Alan Quinn, who reveals he loved Wade's wife. Quinn could not stand that Eric Wade wasn't letting him heal her with his spiritual guidance, but poisoning her with his chemicals, so he killed him. Meanwhile, Hodges is distant with his fiance, Elisabetta, which leads her to believe he wants to call off the wedding. In the end, he realizes he has never wanted anything more than to marry Elisabetta.
