The CSI team investigates the death of an off-road race truck driver who was killed by a bomb mid-race. The victim, Jack Breslin, was killed instantly in the explosion, but his co-captain and pit crew mysteriously vanished immediately afterwards. After examining the evidence carefully, the team determines that the bomb was actually meant to kill another racer, Kathy Veek, who is the head of a large oil conglomerate and often received death threats. The CSIs trace the threats and a voicemail left on Breslin's cell phone to an a local hotel, where they apprehend Clive Morris, one of Breslin's teammates. As Russell interrogates Clive, he becomes convinced that Clive isn't the bomber due to his paranoid nature. Sure enough, Clive met Breslin and their third, more aggressive teammate, Lyle Platt, at a psychiatric hospital. Thinking that Lyle is the one out to kill Kathy Veek, they race to her trailer at the race track to stop him, but they find him bleeding out More...from a gunshot wound on her trailer floor. Finally, Clive admits that a man named Archie Johnson helped them build their truck for the race. Archie has a grudge against Kathy because he blames her company, a parent company of the firm for which he worked, for not covering his wife's cancer treatments, leading to her demise. In the end, Russell and the team track Archie down before he manages to kill Kathy or blow up another bomb.
