AceShowbiz - Sir Sean Connery and his wife Micheline have reportedly been summoned to testify in a Spanish court in relation to a property scandal in the country. A property company linked to the former "James Bond" star and his wife allegedly failed to pay $2 million in tax on the sale of development rights to land on the outskirts of Malaga.
In May, Connery was named in a money-laundering investigation stemming from the sale of a seaside villa just east of Marbella, a coastal town close to Malaga. The actor was said to have sold the property for $9 million in 1999 and it was knocked down and replaced by a complex with 72 apartments - despite laws dictating only five homes could be constructed at the site.
The Madrid and Marbella offices of the law firm which allegedly handled the sale were raided in May and now the city's former chief of urban planning, Juan Antonio Roca, is on trial over the case.
On Thursday, October 7 it was revealed Connery and his wife have been subpoenaed to testify on October 15 in relation to the proceedings, according to AFP. Regional newspaper Diario Sur claimed the judge said he "may use all legal means under both the national and international law to compel them (to testify)".
Connery and Micheline lived in Marbella from the 1970s to the 1990s but now reside in the Bahamas.
