AceShowbiz - Gay singer Joe McElderry is relieved his sexuality revelation was accepted by fans - because he was so "nervous" about 'coming out'. The 19 year old, who won Simon Cowell's reality show "The X Factor" in 2009, confirmed rumors he is gay earlier this year but admits he felt anxious about how the news would be received.
He tells Britain's New! magazine, "Everybody's been absolutely outstanding. I couldn't have asked for a better reaction. I was overwhelmed. I was nervous. It's not ideal to have to tell the whole nation that you're gay! I thought, 'Oh my God, this is big stuff'."
"But once I realized who I was as a person, I thought, 'Right, I'm just going to be honest'. It makes your life easier. I'm more relaxed and I feel comfortable in myself now."
