AceShowbiz - The CBS spinoff series Marshals, expanding the popular Yellowstone universe, has introduced several guest stars, including country music artists. Among the notable appearances is country singer Riley Green, who is set to appear in multiple episodes this season.
In the March 8 episode, viewers saw country singer Ashley Cooke perform her song "Next to You" at the Four Sixes bar, a local watering hole featured on the show. However, it was Riley Green's upcoming role that generated buzz ahead of his debut.
Riley Green, 37, shared his excitement about joining the cast in February, saying, "I'm so excited to be joining the cast of Marshals. Being on set with my buddy Luke Grimes made the experience even more memorable." This marks Green’s first venture into acting, and he expressed gratitude for the welcoming environment and opportunity to explore a new creative field.
The spinoff stars Luke Grimes, who reprises his role as Kayce Dutton, a central figure originally introduced in the Paramount+ series Yellowstone. The Dutton family saga ran from 2018 to 2025, capturing a wide audience and leading to several spinoffs and prequels, including 1883 and 1923. CBS ordered Marshals to further expand this Western universe.
In Marshals, Riley Green plays Garrett, a former Navy SEAL who arrives at the ranch seeking support from his friends Kayce Dutton and Cal. The character is described as a man trying to confront and lay to rest the demons from his past, adding depth and vulnerability to the storyline.
Green explained to People magazine that his involvement came about naturally through his friendship with Luke Grimes. The two connected over music, with Grimes beginning his own music career and visiting Nashville for co-writing sessions. Green was helping Grimes navigate the music scene when Grimes encouraged him to try acting. Green had already been considering it, so the timing worked out well.
Reflecting on the experience, Green noted how welcoming the cast and crew were during filming. He contrasted the monotony often involved in touring and performing music with the fresh and unpredictable nature of acting. "A lot of my music career, other than writing new songs and adding things to a set, there's a lot of monotony of playing the same songs over and over again," he said. "This is something that's brand new every day."
To prepare for the role, Green worked with an acting coach who advised him to focus less on memorizing lines and more on reacting authentically to other actors during scenes. This approach helped him bring out the emotional complexity of Garrett, who carries significant emotional scars from his military service and personal history.
Riley Green shared that portraying Garrett was challenging because the character's experiences and struggles were far removed from his own life. He relied heavily on feedback and support from others on set to authentically depict the vulnerability and pain inherent in Garrett's story.
Marshals airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, continuing to expand the rich narrative tapestry of the Yellowstone franchise. Fans can look forward to seeing more of Riley Green as Garrett, alongside familiar faces like Luke Grimes and guest appearances from other country music talents.
