Marvel's Kevin Feige reveals how Avengers: Doomsday (2026) uniquely sets up Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), differing from Infinity War & Endgame.

AceShowbiz - Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has recently shared insights on how this film ties into the following Avengers installment, Avengers: Secret Wars, arriving in December 2027.
In an interview with Fandango, Feige explained that the connection between these two upcoming Avengers movies will differ significantly from the relationship seen between the 2018 and 2019 releases, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While many fans might expect a straightforward continuation similar to those films, Feige emphasized that the link between Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars is more nuanced.
“People familiar with the comic stories see that they will relate. But I will say this: They relate in a very different way than Infinity War and Endgame. I think people are expecting a similar connection, and while one certainly does lead into the other, it's in a very different way,” Feige stated. He also described Avengers: Secret Wars as “as ambitious a project as we've ever embarked on.”
The previous Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame, were essentially two halves of a single story arc, separated by the catastrophic event known as the Blip, in which villain Thanos eradicated half of all life after collecting the Infinity Stones. These movies were initially announced as parts one and two of Avengers: Infinity War before the second film was retitled Endgame. In contrast, Feige is making it clear that although there are narrative threads connecting Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, Marvel is avoiding the trap of repeating a similar formula.
Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame featured a massive ensemble cast, including the original Avengers lineup, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and many others as they united to stop Thanos. Endgame grossed an impressive $2.8 billion worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film ever, just behind Avatar.
Following those landmark films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continued expanding with various solo and team projects, such as Spider-Man: Far From Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool & Wolverine, Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set for release on July 31.
The MCU's evolution leads directly into the Phase Six slate, which officially begins with Avengers: Doomsday. This film will reunite fans with many beloved heroes, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing. Notably, Robert Downey Jr. returns, this time portraying the villainous Doctor Doom, adding a fresh twist to his Marvel legacy.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release on Friday, December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will follow exactly one year later, on December 17, 2027. Secret Wars is expected to serve as the climactic conclusion not only to Phase Six but also to the entire Multiverse Saga, wrapping up multiple ongoing storylines within the MCU.
The anticipation for these films is high, and Marvel is clearly positioning them as key milestones. Feige's remarks aim to temper expectations by clarifying that while Avengers: Doomsday leads into Secret Wars, the storytelling approach will be distinct from the direct continuation style fans experienced with Infinity War and Endgame.
As the MCU continues to explore complex narratives and character arcs, fans can look forward to a fresh experience that honors the comics while pushing cinematic boundaries. Both movies promise to deliver superhero action, drama, and sci-fi elements that have become hallmarks of the franchise.
With a star-studded cast and a storyline that spans multiple characters and universes, Avengers: Doomsday is set to be a major event in the superhero genre, setting the stage for the ambitious and highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars.
