AceShowbiz - Bridgerton star Simone Ashley recently spoke about her commitment to the hit Netflix series despite her character Kate’s reduced presence on screen. In a discussion on "The Louis Theroux Podcast" aired on April 13, 2024, Ashley emphasized the importance of loyalty to the show, drawing inspiration from co-star Jonathan Bailey.
Ashley, 31, highlighted how Bailey, 37, set a powerful example of dedication and loyalty towards the production, which she described as “a show about family and returning home.” She noted that many cast members embody this spirit, fostering a sense of belonging and unity among the team. “Now when we go back, there is that environment of coming home and feeling like we’re part of a family,” Ashley added, reflecting on the camaraderie among the actors.
The actress revealed that she has learned a great deal from Bailey’s work ethic. “He flew between Toronto and London back and forth whilst he was filming Wicked,” she said, praising his ability to juggle demanding schedules. Ashley herself has traveled extensively, mentioning she had been to eight cities in one month earlier this year. Despite the challenges, she asserted her willingness to make any schedule work to remain part of the show.
Season 2 of Bridgerton centered on the romance between Kate and Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. The storyline focused heavily on Anthony’s courtship with Kate’s sister, Edwina, played by Charithra Chandran, before he and Kate ultimately got together. This plot development led audiences to expect significant appearances from both characters in season 3.
However, in season 3, Kate and Anthony appeared in only a few scenes before departing on a second honeymoon, returning late in the season to announce Kate’s pregnancy. Season 4 continued to explain their absence by showing the couple remaining in India following the birth of their first child.
Showrunner Jess Brownell spoke to Teen Vogue in June 2024 about the decision to keep Kate and Anthony in India for a period. Brownell explained that this approach keeps the door open for their return, depending on the actors’ schedules and commitments. She also stressed the importance of respecting the cast’s other projects, stating, “To ask actors to come back just to be in the background is not really fair to them.”
Brownell elaborated on the creative direction for the characters, explaining that after their intense storyline in season 2, the goal for their appearances in later seasons was to show the couple in a more settled and loving phase of their relationship. “They still banter with each other and get annoyed at each other,” she said, emphasizing that the characters maintain their familiar dynamic while evolving into a wiser place emotionally.
Additionally, Brownell discussed the limited screen time for Anthony Bridgerton in season 4, noting the intention to spotlight Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. She explained that Anthony’s absence in the early part of the season gives Benedict the space to explore his own challenges as the second son stepping into new responsibilities.
Brownell also pointed out the significance of Anthony’s eventual return, as his relationship with Benedict remains a key element between the two parts of season 4.
Currently, all seasons of Bridgerton are available for streaming on Netflix, with season 5 confirmed to return. However, not all original cast members have been confirmed to reprise their roles, leaving fans curious about the future involvement of characters like Kate and Anthony.
