The film stars Caleb McLaughlin and David Harbour, who voice key characters in this sports-themed family animation.

Caleb McLaughlin lends his voice to Will Harris, a teenage goat determined to become a professional roarball player, while David Harbour voices Archie Everhardt, a rhinoceros athlete on the Vineland Thorns roarball team. GOAT debuted widely in theaters on February 13, 2026, and became available for home viewing digitally on March 24.

According to Deadline, just four days after the digital release, GOAT surpassed $100.7 million in domestic box office revenue, boosted by an additional $2 million earned over the recent weekend. This milestone was reached during the film’s seventh week in theaters. Before this weekend’s earnings, the movie had accumulated a worldwide gross of $176.2 million.

The production budget for GOAT was reported at $80 million. Having earned more than twice its budget globally, the film has crossed its breakeven point, marking it as a clear box office success. Its status as the first family-friendly blockbuster of the year contributed to its steady performance, especially since it faced little competition in this genre until Pixar’s Hoppers released on March 6.

This early-year advantage made GOAT a popular choice for families and children seeking theatrical entertainment, sustaining strong box office momentum well beyond its opening weekend. Positive reception and good word of mouth have also played a crucial role in maintaining audience interest.

In a review for ScreenRant, Gregory Nussen rated the sports comedy seven out of 10 stars, praising director Tyree Dillihay’s debut as “a really effective, stunningly animated, inspiring success” and describing the story as “an underdog tale for a new generation ready for a more inclusive kind of game.” The film holds an 84% “Certified Fresh” rating from critics and a 93% “Verified Hot” audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting its favorable critical and public reception.

Despite the availability of the digital version, the ongoing box office success demonstrates that viewers continue to choose theaters for experiencing GOAT.

For McLaughlin and Harbour, GOAT is their first major project since the Stranger Things series finale streamed on Netflix on December 31, 2025. Apart from McLaughlin reprising his role as Lucas Sinclair in a Saturday Night Live sketch alongside fellow cast members Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo, this film represents their next significant screen appearance.

Harbour is currently starring in the new HBO Max series DTF St. Louis, acting alongside Jason Bateman and Linda Cardellini. Later in 2026, he is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday, reprising his role as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, previously seen in Black Widow and Thunderbolts.
