AceShowbiz - Jeannie Mai has recently shared an honest update about her dating life following her divorce from rapper Jeezy. The former host of The Real ended her two-year marriage to Jeezy in 2023, with their divorce finalizing the next year. Now at 47, she is prioritizing herself when it comes to dating and relationships.
In a candid YouTube video released on March 5, Jeannie Mai emphasized a new approach: “I'm not trying to be chosen. I'm deciding.” She explained that her focus is on whether she feels fully herself when with a partner, posing the question, “Am I fully me when I'm with you?”
Jeannie admitted it has been a long time since she allowed anyone to see her completely as she is. She described the dating scene in Los Angeles as feeling like a competitive sport, noting that many people appear emotionally unavailable. This time around, she insists on holding firm standards.
Reinforcing her new mindset, the Daytime Emmy winner stated, “Being in my presence is a privilege.” Reflecting this belief, she recently took herself on a solo date and shared the experience in her vlog. Jeannie declared, “I'm not shrinking my shine to make someone else comfortable,” and stressed the most important lesson she’s learned: “I will never abandon myself again.”
The process of divorce has been deeply painful for Jeannie Mai. She compared splitting from Jeezy, with whom she shares a 4-year-old daughter named Monaco, to the experience of “death alive.” She described divorce as heartbreaking in all cases during a January episode of iHeartRadio's Question Everything podcast. She said, “It's one of the greatest pains that any human has to endure, honestly.”
Jeannie went on to explain how divorce forces one into a defensive position: “Divorce does this inhumane thing that forces you to then protect yourself to get what you need from the divorce. It's the worst.”
Despite the challenges, Jeannie Mai revealed she remains open to the idea of marriage again. Having previously been married to Freddy Harteis from 2007 to 2018, she said, “I actually would [marry again], because I really don't wanna ever put a block on myself.” She added thoughtfully, “You can never put a container around love. You can never say, like, 'Oh, I'm only going to find love,' if I'm saying I'm never gonna get married again.”
