AceShowbiz - Brian McKnight has initiated a defamation lawsuit against The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, radio host Karen Clark, and the media company Urban One, citing damaging and false statements made during recent broadcasts.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, centers on interviews and segments aired in late 2025 that discussed McKnight's personal relationships with his family. According to court documents reported by WBLS, the singer alleges these broadcasts portrayed him unfairly as "emotionally abusive, mentally abusive and neglectful" toward his children.
McKnight is seeking $25,000 in compensatory damages for each claim, as well as punitive damages, for what he describes as harmful and false accusations.
The complaint highlights a particular interview on Foxy 107.1 in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Karen Clark spoke with Julie McKnight, the singer’s ex-wife. That discussion, which later circulated online, focused on McKnight's relationship with his older children. The lawsuit claims Clark asked leading questions and failed to give McKnight the chance to respond to these allegations.
Additionally, the filing references a December 2025 segment that included audio from Brian McKnight Jr., the eldest son. In this clip, he accused his father of not expressing love to his brother Niko during a cancer battle.
Representatives for The Rickey Smiley Morning Show and Karen Clark have not issued any public statements regarding the lawsuit as of now.
