AceShowbiz - Orangutan is the newest addition to Disney's Disneynature series, set to premiere on Disney+ on Earth Day, April 22, 2026. Narrated by Josh Gad, the film centers on Indah, a curious young orangutan learning to navigate life as she prepares to leave her family and embark on an independent journey for the first time.
This feature follows the 2025 Disneynature release "Sea Lions of the Galapagos," narrated by Brendan Fraser. Disneynature continues the legacy of Walt Disney’s original "True-Life Adventures," which began in 1948 with "Seal Island" and went on to win eight Academy Awards, shaping the nature documentary genre.
Founded in 2008, Disneynature has produced films highlighting a diverse range of wildlife, including "The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos," "Penguins," "Elephants," and "Bears." Each film offers an intimate look at the natural world, combining stunning cinematography with compelling storytelling.
Director Mark Linfield expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Orangutans are my absolute favourite animal! They're gentle, funny, smart and always surprising." He praised Josh Gad's narration for capturing the essence of the species and praised the camera crew for revealing unseen aspects of orangutan life. Linfield co-directed the film with Vanessa Berlowitz, and the production team includes Linfield, Berlowitz, and Roy Conli. The original musical score was composed by Nitin Sawhney.
Orangutan is poised to offer viewers a fresh and intimate perspective on these remarkable creatures, continuing Disneynature’s tradition of educating and inspiring audiences about the planet’s biodiversity. The film’s release on Earth Day aligns perfectly with its environmental and conservation themes.
