AceShowbiz - Justin Baldoni has secured a procedural victory in his ongoing legal dispute with Blake Lively after a judge granted his request to postpone critical pretrial deadlines.
In a court filing dated March 25, Baldoni’s attorneys claimed they were overwhelmed by what they described as a "document dump" delivered by Lively’s legal team. The filing detailed that the materials included “voluminous disclosures that are not practical for trial purposes,” citing nearly 1,000 potential exhibits as part of the evidence.
The defense argued, "It is difficult to imagine that even half that number would be put before the jury." They also criticized the scope of the case, noting that Lively identified more than 40 potential witnesses, which they said further demonstrated an "overbreadth" of the litigation. According to Baldoni’s team, being forced to sift through an excessive amount of “plainly inadmissible material” under tight deadlines was unreasonable.
In response, Lively’s attorneys pushed back the next day, labeling the delay request as “an incremental tactic to delay the trial.” They argued that the defendants’ own delay should not be rewarded and dismissed the claims about the volume of evidence, stating there was “no reason that Defendants cannot do the same” in reviewing the documents.
Ultimately, the judge sided with Baldoni, granting a one-week extension and scheduling a status conference for April 2 to discuss next steps.
The lawsuit, filed by Lively in December 2024, accuses Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation connected to their work on the film It Ends With Us. In her complaint, she alleges that Baldoni engaged in inappropriate conduct during production and that she suffered professional repercussions after raising her concerns. Baldoni has denied all allegations, and the case remains active as both parties prepare for trial.
