Nathan Fillion, best known for playing Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds, confirmed the news in a recent interview, addressing the upcoming changes in the beloved sci-fi franchise.

Nathan Fillion will return alongside fellow cast members including Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Summer Glau, and Sean Maher. Fillion confirmed that the character will appear in the animated series, but the original actor, Ron Glass, who portrayed Shepherd Book on the live-action show, passed away in 2016. “We’re bringing back Shepherd Book for certain,” Fillion explained. “Ron Glass, unfortunately, is not available.”

He added with a touch of fondness, “Ron once joked that he didn't get a part when they were looking for a Ron Glass-type, and here we are again. We're looking for a Ron Glass-type, and it's not going to be Ron Glass.” This indicates the production will seek a new actor who can capture the essence of Shepherd Book, a character known for his wisdom and moral guidance among the crew of the spaceship Serenity.

Firefly originally aired on FOX in 2002 but was canceled before all episodes were broadcast, leaving fans with only 11 of the 14 episodes.
