AceShowbiz - Jennie Kim, the K-pop sensation known for her dynamic artistry, marked a milestone with her first solo performance in China, headlining the Complex Live music festival at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo on March 22, 2026.
The event, part of the third annual ComplexCon Hong Kong festival, drew a fervent crowd eager to witness the star’s solo evolution. Fans of Blackpink, affectionately called “Blinks,” joined forces with admirers of Jennie’s solo persona, “Jennie Ruby Jane,” created for her 2025 debut solo album, Ruby. This united fanbase eagerly anticipated the 30-minute, 10-song set that showcased her versatility.
Although Blackpink’s Deadline Tour had recently wrapped up nearby at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium only two months prior, the sold-out crowd’s enthusiasm for Jennie was undiminished. She took the stage promptly at 9:45 p.m., delivering a tightly choreographed performance that wove elements of R&B, hip-hop, and club music into a distinctive style.
The show opened with “Mantra,” where Jennie was flanked by a dozen dancers. Her stage presence combined sharp, powerful hip-hop moves with fluid poses, setting the tone for the night. The set continued with “Love Hangover,” followed by the energetic party anthem “With the IE (Way Up),” as she sprinted across the stage with her backup dancers perfectly synchronized.
One of the highlights came with “Start a War,” a moment where Jennie confidently stood alone in the spotlight, demonstrating her ability to captivate audiences with minimal accompaniment. For “Seoul City,” she paid homage to a memorable look from the 2025 Melon Music Awards by wearing a mini veil inscribed with the Korean alphabet.
The energy escalated with high-tempo tracks like “ExtraL” and “Handlebars,” the latter performed solo to emphasize her vocal and emotional range. The theatrical peak of the evening was the live debut of “Dracula.” Emerging in a striking black coat that blended elements of a cape and couture fashion, Jennie embraced a gothic fantasy aesthetic.
The momentum continued with “Damn Right,” where her runway-like prowling transformed every moment into a stylish catwalk. Closing the performance was the anthemic “Like Jennie,” during which she donned her signature Gentle Monster sunglasses.
Bonnie Chan Woo, CEO of Complex China, praised the star’s dedication and creativity, stating, “Jennie’s live stages are always so captivating, and it’s clear how much creativity and dedication she brings to every performance. For ComplexCon Hong Kong, she went the extra mile by incorporating new, never-before-seen elements into her choreography and staging. Her presence in Hong Kong, even a year after her solo album release, meant so much.”
ComplexCon, originally a U.S.-based event that has toured cities such as Long Beach, Las Vegas, and Chicago, expanded to Hong Kong in 2024. While the 2026 attendance and sales figures are pending, expectations are high that this year’s festival will surpass previous records, boosted in large part by Jennie’s headline performance and the influence of artistic director Kasing Lung, a Hong Kong-born Belgian artist and creator of Labubu. Lung’s presence attracted thousands, many of whom waited hours to purchase limited-edition Monsters merchandise.
The festival also featured special exhibits like the Virgil Abloh Archive, a vast collection of over 20,000 items showcasing the late designer’s creative legacy, which drew significant attention. Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF contributed a futuristic and viral culture experience on the Pigeons & Planes Stage.
Over its three-year history in China, ComplexCon’s concert series has introduced prominent artists to Chinese audiences for the first time, including rappers 21 Savage and Quavo. Last year, the event gained international headlines as the site of NewJeans’ final show before their disbandment following a legal dispute with their label, ADOR.
The 2026 Complex Live lineup also featured rapper Yeat debuting in China on Saturday, alongside performances by Jay Park and ALLDAYPROJECT.
