AceShowbiz - Ready or Not 2: Here I Come has officially set a new Rotten Tomatoes record for Sarah Michelle Gellar, marking a significant milestone in her film career after 27 years. This highly anticipated horror comedy sequel continues the story following Grace's (played by Samara Weaving) survival of the deadly hide-and-seek game against her sinister new in-laws.
In this sequel, Grace once again finds herself pulled into a dangerous game, this time facing fresh adversaries, including Gellar, who vies for control of the High Council that governs the world. Early critical response to Ready or Not 2 has been generally positive, with the film holding a 75% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.
More impressively, the audience score currently stands at 90%, making it the highest-rated film featuring Gellar on the platform. This breaks the previous record held by the 1999 hit Cruel Intentions, which had an 80% audience rating. Additionally, the sequel’s audience score surpasses the original Ready or Not film’s 78% rating, as viewers have praised the movie for amplifying the intense, gory chase sequences and the complex sibling dynamic between Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton’s characters.
To put these accomplishments into perspective, here are some of the highest-rated Sarah Michelle Gellar movies on Rotten Tomatoes by audience score:
- Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026) – 90% audience, 75% critics
- Cruel Intentions (1999) – 80% audience, 55% critics
- The Air I Breathe (2007) – 61% audience, 11% critics
- TMNT (2007) – 60% audience, 35% critics
- Scream 2 (1997) – 83% audience, 59% critics
Until recent years, Gellar had primarily appeared in cameo roles, including parts in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Do Revenge. On television, she has returned to her horror and thriller roots with shows like Wolf Pack and Dexter: Resurrection. The 2020s are thus shaping up to be a resurgence period for her career.
In Ready or Not 2, Gellar takes on a more prominent role as one of the antagonists opposing Weaving’s protagonist. However, at present, she does not have any projects in active development, especially after confirming that the revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was canceled. The planned series would have introduced a new slayer named Nova, with Gellar reprising her iconic role as Buffy Summers. She revealed that Hulu’s decision to scrap the project was due to an executive’s choice.
Meanwhile, Gellar is set to appear as a judge on the talent competition Star Search and will have a voice role in the animated TV show Breaking Bear. Despite the cancellation of the Buffy revival, Ready or Not 2 remains one of only two movies in her filmography to receive a “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes, the other being Scream 2, noted as her highest-rated movie by critic score.
As word of mouth builds for the sequel, it may positively impact the film’s box office performance, even as it competes with the sci-fi blockbuster Project Hail Mary. Industry projections estimate that Ready or Not 2 could earn around $10 million during its opening weekend, from a production budget reported between $6 million and $10 million. The 2019 original was a major success, grossing $57 million overall.
The film reunites the creative team from the original, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett returning. Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy penned the screenplay, while producers include James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Bradley J. Fischer, and Tripp Vinson. The cast also features Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, and David Cronenberg. Notably, the movie marks another collaboration among Radio Silence (the directing duo), Kevin Durand, and Kathryn Newton.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is now playing in theaters, continuing to captivate audiences with its mix of horror, comedy, and suspense. The film runs 108 minutes and maintains the dark, thrilling energy that fans expect from the franchise.
