AceShowbiz - Chris Cuomo pushed back strongly against Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt following her social media criticism regarding the U.S. Olympic men's hockey team’s recent visit to Washington, D.C.
During the Thursday episode of Cuomo Mornings, Chris Cuomo addressed his online exchange with Karoline Leavitt, sparked by his comments on the politicization of the U.S. Olympic Men’s hockey team. The team had just secured their first gold medal in over 40 years and later attended former President Trump’s State of the Union address, which became a point of contention.
Karoline Leavitt had tweeted on Wednesday, calling Cuomo’s perspective “such a dumb take.” She emphasized that the team had achieved a significant milestone by winning gold after 46 years and were honored by the “duly-elected President of the United States” in front of Congress. She added that only those with a “loser-mentality” would view the situation negatively.
Responding to the tweet live on his show, Chris Cuomo dissected her statement at length. “What is she talking about? She's talking about me, and she has gotten over a million impressions on this tweet,” he said. He criticized her approach, saying she “shoots first, aims never,” suggesting she lacks understanding of the actual issues because her role is simply to attack.
He elaborated, “Her problem, which I'm sure she's not concerned about, is that she is absolutely wrong and being played as a fool.” Chris Cuomo made it clear that he does not respect her opinion and dismissed her harsh words, calling her a “press puppet” and likening her to a “poorly trained pit bull” whose job is only to attack without insight.
Earlier that weekend, the U.S. men’s hockey team had a dramatic overtime victory over Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics, clinching the gold medal. The team gained additional attention when a video surfaced showing FBI Director Kash Patel celebrating in their locker room. He was seen congratulating them and relaying a message from former President Trump, who personally reached out to the team.
In his congratulatory remarks, Trump humorously mentioned that he would “have to bring the women’s team” to the White House as well, joking that he “probably would be impeached” if he did not invite them too. The men’s team responded with laughter, despite the U.S. women's hockey team also winning gold.
The hockey team subsequently faced backlash for their reaction to Trump’s comments and for attending the State of the Union address the following Tuesday. Nearly the entire team, with only five exceptions, made the trip to Washington, D.C., which intensified the political debate surrounding their involvement.
