AceShowbiz - Hulu has given a pilot order for a new comedy series titled Lex, created by writer-producer Sean Clements and executive producer Paul Simms. The show will be produced by 20th Television and marks one of two pilot pickups Hulu announced on the same day.

The other pilot ordered by the Disney-owned streamer is a drama called Durango, developed by Eliza Clark, known for her work on Y: The Last Man and Animal Kingdom. Meanwhile, Lex centers on its titular character, a disgraced former reality star who unwittingly captures a murder on a $20 Cameo video.

According to the logline, Lex finds himself thrust into a global conspiracy and on the run from dangerous adversaries determined to silence him. Drawing on the social maneuvering skills honed during his reality TV career, he must evade threats, reveal the truth, and ultimately reclaim his place on television.

Lex joins a growing slate of comedies in development at Hulu, alongside projects such as 1266 from Onyx Collective, C-League by writer Charlie Hall, Group Chat starring La La Anthony, and Last Look from Taika Waititi and Jason Kim.

Sean Clements currently serves as a writer and co-executive producer on season three of Severance at Apple TV. His previous credits include Netflix’s Unstable starring Rob Lowe, Comedy Central’s Workaholics, Kevin Can F*ck Himself, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Making History. He also co-hosts the Hollywood Handbook podcast. Clements is represented by UTA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.

Paul Simms is a multiple Emmy nominee with a distinguished comedy background, including credits on FX’s What We Do in the Shadows and Atlanta, as well as creating NewsRadio. He has also worked on The Larry Sanders Show and Girls. Simms is represented by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham.
