AceShowbiz - Man on Fire introduces Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a tormented former special forces mercenary, in its newly released trailer. The thriller series premieres on Netflix on April 30, showcasing Creasy’s violent quest for redemption amidst intense battles in Rio de Janeiro.
The story follows Creasy, plagued by PTSD after completing three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. As he struggles with his inner demons, he takes on a dangerous mission to protect the daughter of his fallen comrade while seeking vengeance for his only friend’s death. The trailer features Creasy’s chilling warning: “Let me be very clear. You’re not gonna survive this.”
This TV adaptation is based on the novels by A.J. Quinnell, which previously inspired a 2004 film starring Denzel Washington and a 1987 Italian movie featuring Scott Glenn. The 2004 feature was a commercial success, grossing $130 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. The Netflix series draws from both Man on Fire and the follow-up novel The Perfect Kill.
The cast also includes Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor. The original book, published in 1980, spawned four additional novels — The Perfect Kill (1992), The Blue Ring (1993), Black Horn (1994), and Message From Hell (1996) — all featuring the character of John Creasy.
The series is written, showrun, and executive produced by Kyle Killen. Production involves New Regency Productions, Chernin Entertainment, and Killen’s Chapter Eleven banner, with executive producers including Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Scott Pennington, Steven Caple Jr., Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Stacy Perskie.
The trailer’s intense action and complex character study promise a gripping addition to the thriller genre, setting high expectations for the series debut on Netflix this spring.
