AceShowbiz - Abbott Elementary has been officially renewed by ABC for a sixth season, scheduled for the 2026-27 television year. This renewal will push the series past the significant milestone of 100 episodes. ABC has continued its pattern of securing the show's renewal well before the current season concludes, making Abbott Elementary the network’s first scripted series to be renewed this season.
The comedy continues to deliver strong numbers both on ABC and across Disney’s streaming platforms, Hulu and Disney+. This season, Abbott Elementary ranks as the number one comedy on television among adults aged 18-49, based on multi-platform viewing over a seven-day period. It holds a 1.82 rating in this key demographic, which translates to approximately 2.48 million viewers within the age group. Remarkably, this figure is more than five times the audience size of the show’s initial live broadcast. When including all platforms and a week of viewing, the series averages over 6 million viewers per episode.
Quinta Brunson, who created the show, also stars in the mockumentary-style series centered on the daily lives of teachers working at an underfunded elementary school in Philadelphia. The cast features Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walter, Janelle James, and William Stanford Davis.
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, with executive producers including Quinta Brunson, Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Randall Einhorn, and Brian Rubenstein. Brunson’s production company, Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, is also involved in the show’s production.
This season, ABC is airing three half-hour comedies: Abbott Elementary, Shifting Gears, and the revival of Scrubs. While Shifting Gears concluded its season in early February with ratings similar to its first season, the Scrubs revival, which premiered on February 25, has already attracted over 11 million viewers across all platforms for its debut episode. Network decisions on the futures of Shifting Gears and Scrubs are still pending.
