AceShowbiz - 9-1-1 has secured renewals from ABC for the 2026-27 television season, with the flagship series returning for its 10th season and its spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, being picked up for a second season. This move reinforces ABC’s confidence in the Ryan Murphy-produced drama duo.
Both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville perform strongly in key demographics, ranking among the Top 10 dramas for Adults 18-49 when considering multi-platform viewing over seven days. Notably, 9-1-1: Nashville stands as the number one new drama in this demo, making its renewal a strategic win for ABC.
Despite the clear ratings success, several factors influenced the decision, especially for the spinoff. The original 9-1-1 continues to be one of ABC’s most-watched scripted shows, recently delivering its best multi-platform audience since the season premiere. However, the show comes with a high budget due to its nine-year run, Los Angeles-based production, a major star lead in Angela Bassett, and complex, large-scale natural disaster sequences. The financial demands were a key reason the show shifted from Fox to ABC, whose sister studio 20th Television produces the franchise. Cost adjustments occurred late last season, notably following the exit of co-lead Peter Krause.
9-1-1: Nashville has experienced a fluctuating journey. After a strong debut, the series saw its ratings dip, hitting a low during the fall finale and maintaining modest numbers through its winter return. The show retained just over half of the sizable lead-in audience from 9-1-1. In response, the producers implemented retooling strategies that have helped the series hit new highs in total viewers and Adults 18-49, particularly with its January 29 episode. This upward trend has strengthened the show’s prospects for renewal.
ABC and 20th Television have expressed strong support for 9-1-1 veteran and 9-1-1: Nashville co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner Rashad Rasani, who recently renewed his overall deal with the studio, signaling continued confidence in his leadership.
9-1-1: Nashville is created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Rasani, while 9-1-1 is created and executive produced by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Minear, with Minear also serving as showrunner. These creative teams remain at the forefront as the shows move into their new seasons.
Alongside the 9-1-1 franchise, ABC has also greenlit renewals for the comedy Abbott Elementary and the drama High Potential, rounding out the network’s lineup for 2026-27 with a strong mix of returning favorites.
