AceShowbiz - Netflix has announced a premiere date and an early renewal for its reboot of Little House on the Prairie. The new series, inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder's cherished novels, is set to debut on July 9, with a second season already confirmed months before the first season’s launch.
The showrunner, Rebecca Sonnenshine, expressed deep appreciation for the cast and crew, saying, “I'm incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive.” She added that the team is eager to share this fresh adaptation of the classic story and is excited Netflix has committed to continuing the saga of the Ingalls family.
This reboot retraces the Ingalls family’s journey as chronicled in Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books. The cast features Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes portraying her older sister Mary, with Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald taking on the roles of Pa and Ma Ingalls, respectively.
Jinny Howe, head of U.S. and Canada scripted series at Netflix, praised the production, stating, “The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on season one has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come.” She emphasized the show’s hopeful tone and emotional depth, expressing confidence that Little House will continue to resonate strongly with fans.
The original Little House on the Prairie TV series was a significant success, running for nine seasons from 1974 to 1983 on NBC, with 200 episodes and several follow-up TV movies. The classic cast included Melissa Gilbert, Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, and Melissa Sue Anderson.
Netflix describes its new version as a blend of hopeful family drama, epic survival story, and the origin tale of the American West, presenting a kaleidoscopic perspective on the challenges and victories of frontier life.
Produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content, Little House on the Prairie boasts an impressive creative team. Executive producers include Sonnenshine (known for The Boys and The Vampire Diaries), Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel. The season one directing lineup features Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, and Sydney Freeland.
With its early renewal and strong creative backing, the Little House on the Prairie reboot is positioned to bring the timeless story of the Ingalls family to a new generation, blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling on Netflix’s global stage.
