AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift's album The Life of a Showgirl has been crowned the biggest-selling global album of 2025 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). This marks the second consecutive year Swift has claimed the top spot.
Released in October 2025, Swift's twelfth studio album moved an impressive 6.05 million units globally across physical sales, digital downloads, and streaming. The project dominated multiple IFPI charts, securing the No. 1 position on the Global Album Chart, the Global Album Sales Chart, and the Global Vinyl Album Chart. With this vinyl achievement, Swift broke her own record for the highest vinyl sales for the fourth year in a row.
The album's commercial power was evident from its debut, where it scored the largest week for an album by equivalent album units earned with 4.002 million. This surpassed the previous record held by Adele's 25 since 2015. The Life of a Showgirl also spent twelve non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
This announcement follows the recent news that Taylor Swift also topped the IFPI's Global Artist Chart for 2025, her fourth consecutive year leading that ranking.
Morgan Wallen's I'm The Problem landed at No. 2 on the overall Global Album Chart, followed by the soundtrack to KPop Demon Hunters at No. 3. Bad Bunny's DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS took No. 4, and Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet completed the top five.
The IFPI's Global Album Sales Chart, which measures physical and full-album digital downloads, told a different story. While Swift led, the rest of the top 20 was composed entirely of non-western artists, highlighting the strength of physical sales markets in regions like South Korea, Japan, and China. K-pop acts Stray Kids, SEVENTEEN, and ENHYPEN placed at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, respectively.
In contrast, the Global Streaming Album Chart was led by Morgan Wallen, with Bad Bunny, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, SZA, and Sabrina Carpenter rounding out the top five. Swift's The Life of a Showgirl placed eighth on this streaming-focused list.
The vinyl-specific chart underscored Taylor Swift's dominance in that format. Sabrina Carpenter's Man's Best Friend and Kendrick Lamar's GNX followed at a significant distance. The chart also featured strong catalog sales, with classic albums from Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles all appearing in the top 20. Radiohead's 1997 album OK Computer re-entered at No. 15, fueled by the unlikely chart resurgence of its track "Let Down" on the Billboard Hot 100.
The IFPI's annual charts are compiled from sales data reported by over 8,000 record labels worldwide.
