AceShowbiz - The British band Jamiroquai has entered into a global recording agreement with BMG as they prepare to release their ninth studio album.
Formed in London in 1992, Jamiroquai has sold over 26 million albums globally. Their latest release prior to this upcoming album was Automaton in 2017, which came out under Virgin EMI.
Led by vocalist Jay Kay, the group has achieved significant success in the U.K., boasting four No. 1 albums: Emergency on Planet Earth (1993), Sykronized (1999), A Funk Odyssey (2001), and High Times – Singles 1992-2006. In total, nine of their studio albums have reached the top 10, and they have secured one U.K. No. 1 single with 1998’s “Deeper Underground,” alongside 26 top 40 hits.
Speaking about the new partnership, Jay Kay expressed his enthusiasm: "Let me say how amazing it feels to find a home at BMG in 2026. It’s been humbling to navigate the interest in the new album from some great companies, but after working so hard on it for the last two years, I know that the super people at BMG are the right team for us."
He emphasized the importance of maintaining creative control, stating, "It’s important to feel comfortable and be able to keep a hand in the creative process, not only musically, but visually too. Jamie [Nelson, svp new recordings UK], with his huge experience and in-depth knowledge of my musical journey so far, definitely understands where I want to go – boldly into the future on what feels like an exciting new chapter." Jay Kay added that he is exceptionally pleased to collaborate with Nelson and the entire BMG family worldwide on what he believes to be some of their best work in three decades.
Jamie Nelson also commented on the signing, noting the band's enduring impact: "Jamiroquai’s success over many years is extraordinary. Pioneering and progressive in their output, they have continued to evolve while others have stood still. In Jay Kay, they have a truly global, iconic frontman who remains as creatively driven as ever, always pushing forward and bringing fans with him."
