AceShowbiz - Scritti Politti is set to reissue their iconic 1982 debut album, Songs to Remember. This remastered version, which has not been available on streaming platforms and has been out of print on vinyl since 1985, will be released on April 10 through Rough Trade in digital, LP, and CD formats.
In a statement about the reissue, Geoff Travis, founder of Rough Trade, reflected on the band's impact, saying, “Mark E Smith, a Rough Trade artist at the time, once said to me, ‘Scritti have the best rhythm section in rock music.’” He continued, “I do know that at Rough Trade we were all in thrall to Green Gartside’s honeyed voice and his brilliant lyric writing.” These words capture the excitement of a time when exceptional talent was frequenting the Rough Trade label.
Green Gartside, the frontman and songwriter of Scritti Politti, collaborated with bassist Nial Jinks, drummer Tom Morley, and a variety of guest musicians to create this groundbreaking album. The record produced three successful singles—“The Sweetest Girl,” “Faithless,” and “Asylums in Jerusalem / Jacques Derrida”—all of which made a mark on the UK charts. The new edition of Songs to Remember has been meticulously remastered by Alex Wharton at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Fans of Scritti Politti can look forward to revisiting this classic, which remains a testament to the band's innovative approach to pop music. The album's tracklist includes:
- Asylums in Jerusalem
- A Slow Soul
- Jacques Derrida
- Lions After Slumber
- Faithless
- Sex
- Rock-a-Boy Blue
- Gettin’ Havin’ & Holdin’
