AceShowbiz - The 2026 Grammy Awards were anything but predictable, marking a stark contrast to previous years where frontrunners were clear. For instance, 1984 celebrated Michael Jackson's dominance, resulting in a record eight wins, while 1999 saw Santana achieve the same feat. In 2012, Adele tied Beyoncé's record for most wins by a female artist in a single night. This year, however, the Big Four categories—album, record, and song of the year plus best new artist—were up for grabs.
As anticipation built, fans speculated whether Kendrick Lamar would finally take home album of the year or if it would go to Bad Bunny. In the record of the year category, would the collaborative effort “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA prevail, or would the duet “APT.” featuring ROSÉ and Bruno Mars take the prize? The song of the year competition was equally fierce, with contenders like the K-Pop hit “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters and other strong entries, including “Luther” and “APT.” Wildflower was an unexpected contender that few anticipated to perform well.
Best new artist nominations stirred excitement too, featuring Leon Thomas, who also earned an album of the year nod for Mutt, alongside rising stars Olivia Dean and sombr. Ultimately, the winners emerged as Bad Bunny for album of the year, “Luther” for record of the year, “Wildflower” for song of the year, and Olivia Dean as best new artist. Of these, only “Wildflower” was a true upset, but the ceremony was filled with Surprises across the 95 awards handed out on February 1.
One notable snub was Sabrina Carpenter, who left empty-handed after six nominations, a letdown compared to her previous year’s success of two wins out of four nominations. Nevertheless, Carpenter showcased her talent by performing at both the 2025 and 2026 ceremonies, impressing audiences with her elaborate productions. Last year, she captivated viewers with a medley of “Please Please Please” and “Espresso,” while this year, her performance of “Manchild” set in an airport left a lasting impression.
