AceShowbiz - In a stunning announcement at the Golden Globes, The Pitt has been awarded the prestigious title of Best Drama Series for 2026. The medical procedural, streaming on HBO Max, has triumphed against tough competition from other popular series such as The Diplomat on Netflix, Pluribus from Apple TV, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus, also on HBO Max.
This accolade is not a mere coincidence. Earlier during the ceremony, actor Noah Wyle took home the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his remarkable performance in The Pitt. As he made his way to the stage to celebrate the series' victory, he shared a heartfelt embrace with his former E.R. co-star, George Clooney. The two actors enjoyed a weekend of camaraderie, having spent Saturday celebrating each other's achievements at the AARP Awards.
As whispers of a potential on-screen reunion circulate, HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys expressed that Clooney would be “welcome” to join the cast of The Pitt, as per comments made to The Hollywood Reporter last November.
Meanwhile, The White Lotus led the nominations at this year's Golden Globes with six nods across various categories, while Adolescence, a limited series, garnered five nominations. Other notable contenders included Only Murders in the Building and Severance, both of which received four nominations each.
The complete list of winners from this year’s ceremony, which featured a total of 28 awards, can be found online. Last year's winner for Best Drama Series was Sh?gun, which also claimed several other honors. The FX series, streaming on Hulu, outperformed shows like The Day of the Jackal on Peacock and Squid Game on Netflix. Only The Diplomat and Slow Horses were repeat nominees from the previous year.
Returning as host for the second consecutive year was comedian Nikki Glaser, who has gained significant recognition for her work, particularly following her performance at the 2024 Roast of Tom Brady on Netflix. The production team behind the Golden Globes included experienced showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner from White Cherry Entertainment.
The 2026 Golden Globes aired live on CBS between 8-11 p.m. ET and was also available for streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. The event was produced by Dick Clark Productions, a company owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a partnership between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, which also owns The Hollywood Reporter.
