The consensus on the site states, “After the heady sci-fi thrills of District 9, Elysium is a bit of a comedown for director Neill Blomkamp, but on its own terms, it delivers just often enough to satisfy.”

Alongside Matt Damon, Elysium featured performances from notable actors such as Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, and Sharlto Copley. The film's ambitious themes and high production values were initially promising, but the execution left some audience members feeling underwhelmed.

In a 2015 interview with Uproxx, Neill Blomkamp reflected on the challenges he faced during production, admitting, “I just didn't make a good enough film is ultimately what it is. I feel like I executed all of the stuff that could be executed, like costume and set design...”
