AceShowbiz - Award-winning actor George Clooney and four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening are set to star in In Love, a compelling film adaptation of Amy Bloom’s acclaimed New York Times best-selling memoir. The project will be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Paul Weitz, known for his sensitive storytelling in dramatic features. This powerful casting brings significant emotional depth to a story exploring profound themes of love, loss, and difficult life decisions.
In Love is based on Amy Bloom’s deeply personal and widely lauded memoir, In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss, which garnered substantial critical praise, including being named TIME Magazine’s No. 1 best nonfiction book. The book bravely chronicles Bloom’s heartbreaking experience of slowly losing her husband to Alzheimer’s disease and their agonizing, mutual decision to travel to Switzerland for medically assisted dying. It’s a profound affirmation of enduring love and the transformative power of relationships, while also delving into the struggle to move forward as a widow.
Anton, the rapidly rising production and sales outfit run by Sébastien Raybaud, is fully financing the project and will handle international sales rights. U.S. rights are being co-represented by Anton and CAA Media Finance. Paul Weitz, whose recent directorial credits include 2021’s Fatherhood and 2022’s Moving On, co-wrote the screenplay for In Love alongside author Amy Bloom herself. This collaborative writing effort ensures an authentic and respectful adaptation of the memoir’s sensitive narrative, promising a faithful cinematic interpretation.
The film boasts a robust and experienced producing team. Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev, who initially developed the project, will produce via their banner Sight Unseen. Andrew Miano and Paul Weitz are also producing through their shingle Depth of Field. Additionally, George Clooney will take on a producing role alongside his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov, and Sébastien Raybaud will produce on behalf of Anton. This collective expertise underscores the project's commitment to high-quality storytelling and emotional resonance.
Both lead actors continue to be highly active in the industry with other significant projects. George Clooney is currently generating considerable awards buzz for his role in Noah Baumbach’s acclaimed comedy-drama Jay Kelly, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and is set to debut on Netflix on December 5. Meanwhile, Annette Bening will next be seen opposite Jessie Buckley in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s unique reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein story, titled Bride, slated for a Warner Bros. release on March 6, 2026. Clooney is represented by CAA and attorney Stephen Clark, while Bening is with CAA and Gochman Law Group. Weitz and Depth of Field are repped by CAA, Untitled, and attorney Alex Kohner, and Bloom by WME.
