AceShowbiz - Katy Perry, Gayle King, Jeff Bezos' fiancee Lauren Sanchez, and three other formidable women are primed for a milestone as they embark on a journey aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket. Ahead of this flight, they pose together in their space suits.
The women were photographed in their striking, blue figure-hugging bodycons. "Happy International Day of Human Space Flight 🚀 Forever in awe of the Universe and it's alignment ✨," Katy captioned these snapshots on Instagram.
These tailored suits were designed by Lauren Sanchez with the assistance of Monse co-founders Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim. Lauren remarked, "Usually, you know, these suits are made for a man. Then they get tailored to fit a woman. I think the suits are elegant but they also bring a little spice to space."
The mission is set to mark the first all-female trip to space since Valentina Tereshkova's solo flight in 1963.
Katy gushed about the upcoming trip, "I am talking to myself every day and going, 'You're brave, you're bold, you are doing this for the next generation to inspire so many different people but especially young girls to go, 'I'll go to space in the future.' No limitations."
Gayle King, although initially apprehensive, acknowledged this adventure as a newfound dream. She described her mixed feelings as similar to those experienced before childbirth, saying, "I don't know how to explain being terrified and excited at the same time."
Despite some public skepticism about the necessity and timing of this mission, particularly conveyed by celebrities like Olivia Munn, the crew remains steadfast. As Lauren Sánchez noted, this journey is about rewriting the narrative for women in space.
The launch, which is a part of Blue Origin's New Shepard program, is scheduled for April 14 in West Texas. This 11-minute trip will propel the crew 62 miles above Earth, touching the edge of the atmosphere - a short journey that is rich with historic significance.
With a mix of excitement and readiness, Perry summed up the mission's essence, "We are going to put the 'a**' in astronaut."
