AceShowbiz - Chappell Roan has finally released her much-anticipated country single, "The Giver," marking a bold departure from her usual pop genre. The song, produced by Dan Nigro, is a fiddle-infused, rollicking tune which sees Roan trying to woo a woman while celebrating her unique take on country music.
"Girl, I don't need no lifted truck/ revvin' loud to pick you up… all you country boys saying you know how to treat a woman right/ Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right," Roan sings with conviction.
Roan debuted the upbeat track on "Saturday Night Live" in November and has been teasing the song for weeks on social media and through billboards across the U.S.
In the lively anthem, enriched with a stomping chorus, she croons, "Cause you ain't gotta tell me, it's just in my nature/ So take it like a taker, cause baby, I'm a giver/ Ain't no need to hurry, cause baby, I deliver/ Ain't no country boy quitter/ I get the job done."
Roan took to Instagram to share her excitement about the song's release, acknowledging the boldness of making a country track after finding success in the pop genre last year.
"I love this song so much and it's been such a fun rollout … it is def a bold and scary move to release a full ass country song after only releasing one song last year and it having such a success in the pop genre … but I think that's the entire point of chappell roan. Be bold and scary and have fun. be popstar girl then pop an edible +watch YouTube vibes. The whole point of this is to be silly !!!"
Roan further reflected on her love for country music on a recent episode of "Today's Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen" on Apple Music. "I really just did it for fun," she said. "I'm not switching genres or anything. I wanted to write a country song because I just thought it would be funny. It's campy and fun."
She noted that Big & Rich's 2004 track "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" was a significant inspiration behind her new single. "I was like, ‘I want to feel that way on stage … I want to write that song, but Chappell's version.' "
To celebrate "The Giver," Roan is releasing five limited edition 7-inch vinyl records. Each features artwork portraying Roan as various service-oriented characters, like a lawyer, dentist, plumber, and private investigator.
These personas also appear on billboards in Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles, enhancing the whimsical and campy rollout of her new venture.
In closing, Roan invited even the skeptical listeners to embrace the unfamiliar with an open heart: "Country music is fire. It's the campiest of camp … it is something different and sometimes different can feel bad because it's unfamiliar, but I encourage you to give her another shot."
