AceShowbiz - Teddi Mellencamp, a 43-year-old alum of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," has recently provided a poignant update on her ongoing health challenges. The star who has previously been open about her skin cancer battle revealed on Instagram that her condition has worsened with the discovery of additional tumors in her brain and lungs.
"I have multiple tumors in my brain that weren't able to be removed via surgery. I also have 2 tumors in my lungs. These are all metastases of my melanoma," she wrote.
Mellencamp has long been vocal about her fight with skin cancer, having had 17 different spots of melanoma removed over the past few years. In her latest update, she expressed guarded optimism, stating that her doctors are hopeful immunotherapy will effectively treat the new tumors.
"I am feeling positive - that I will win this battle, that I got this wig (I like the short hair, just not the bald spots), and that I can remember all of Angelina's kids' names," she added humorously.
Her candidness around her medical journey began earlier this year when debilitating headaches led to the discovery of multiple brain tumors. "Yesterday the pain was unbearable and required hospitalization. After a CT scan and MRI, doctors found multiple tumors on my brain, which they believe have been growing for at least 6 months," Mellencamp shared in February.
Following surgery to remove some of the tumors, she updated fans about her recovery, expressing gratitude for the support she had received and declaring her readiness for the next steps in her treatment.
The reality star, who is the daughter of famed American musician John Mellencamp, received an outpouring of support from fellow Housewives and fans alike.
Commenting on her recent Instagram post, her close friend and "Real Housewives" co-star Kyle Richards reminisced about a humorous moment post-surgery while Dorit Kemsley encouraged Mellencamp to keep fighting. "You got this Teddi! You're stronger than you realize," Kemsley commented.
Mellencamp's journey sheds light on the serious implications of melanoma, particularly how it can metastasize to vital organs like the brain and lungs. The National Institute of Health notes that up to 60% of patients with advanced melanoma develop brain metastases, which significantly worsen prognosis. Despite the grave statistics, Mellencamp remains determined and hopeful in her fight.
As Mellencamp continues to navigate her treatment, she remains an inspiring figure to many, showing resilience and courage in the face of a relentless foe. Her story is a stark reminder of the importance of regular health check-ups and the power of a positive attitude, even in the toughest of battles.
Her final words in her recent update encapsulate her fighting spirit, "Now, as @bravoandy would say: with all due… f*** off, cancer!"
