AceShowbiz - Robert Pattinson is no stranger to demanding roles, but his scene in Lynne Ramsay's upcoming movie "Die, My Love" nearly pushed him to the brink. In several interviews, Pattinson admitted to almost having a "mental breakdown" while filming a dance sequence with co-star Jennifer Lawrence.
"I did this movie with Lynne Ramsay, and she's a really good dancer. And Jennifer Lawrence is a really good dancer. They just find it so easy," he shared.
Despite his pleading to either choreograph or cut the dance scene, Ramsay insisted on a raw, unchoreographed performance. "They're like, 'Just dance, it's just music playing, just dance.' I was like, 'I'm going to have a mental breakdown when this happens. We need to either choreograph it or cut it.' And they're like, 'No, just dance, stop being all freak.' "
On the day of the shoot, Pattinson was reportedly sweating so profusely that his trousers were soaked, an exaggeration he recounted with a laugh.
The challenges didn't end there. Filming the movie also included a highly emotional blowout scene where Pattinson's character loses control and screams at Lawrence's character. "I nearly had a mental breakdown doing it," he confessed. "I don't think I've ever screamed like that before."
Known for his brooding roles, Pattinson described how alien the experience felt, even begging Ramsay to cut the scene. Yet, Ramsay's commitment to authenticity meant that the intense moment stayed.
Ramsay's film, adapted from Ariana Harwicz's novel, delves deep into themes of postnatal depression and bipolar disorder. It's a weighty narrative that is balanced with dark comedy, something that both Pattinson and Lawrence have expertly navigated. Shooting took place in rural Canada, adding to the film's raw atmosphere.
While the making of "Die, My Love" was an emotionally grueling process for Pattinson, it showcased his versatility and depth as an actor. Jennifer Lawrence, known for her intense roles, kept her cool, something Pattinson admired. "She's so good at flipping the switch, it's insane," he noted.
With a cast that includes LaKeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, and Nick Nolte, "Die, My Love" promises to be a powerful exploration of love, madness, and the limits of human endurance. Fans eagerly await its release to witness the dramatic tensions and raw performances that both Pattinson and Lawrence bring to the screen.
