AceShowbiz - Jesse Eisenberg honored his close pal Emma Stone at the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards, bringing her to tears. During his moving acceptance speech for Best Screenplay, he called the actress, who's also a producer on his award-winning film "A Real Pain," his "fairy godmother."
Reflecting on their long-standing relationship, Eisenberg noted, "I met Emma when we were in 'Zombieland' together in 2009, and since then I write little magazine articles and little things on McSweeney's, and she's the only person, I'm including my mom here, who would take little screenshots of it over the last 15 years and send me things like, 'This is such a funny line!' "
Eisenberg, who hails from East Brunswick, New Jersey, highlighted Stone's pivotal role in his creative journey during the awards held in Santa Monica, California.
"She was, definitely still [is], the most famous person I know, and yet also the most dedicated to encouraging me as a writer," he gushed. "I think about her not as my producer, but like a fairy godmother, that I am riding the coattails of her goodwill."
In addition to "A Real Pain," Stone has produced Eisenberg's directorial debut "When You Finish Saving the World." In recent years, she has also produced independent films such as "Problemista," "I Saw the TV Glow," and "Fantasmas."
"A Real Pain," Eisenberg's second directorial effort, has garnered significant acclaim since its November release, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the Oscars.
The film stars Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin as cousins who travel to Poland for a Holocaust history tour, fulfilling a promise to their late grandmother. Eisenberg's screenplay draws heavily on his family history.
Culkin almost dropped out of the project due to family commitments, but Stone convinced him to stay. Culkin's performance has since received multiple awards including the Golden Globes, solidifying the film's standing in this year's awards circuit.
Addressing members of the press, Eisenberg doubled down on his admiration for Stone, "Every single person in the world who opens a Final Draft folder wants to write something for Emma Stone. She's the greatest in everything ever."
