AceShowbiz - Beloved music radio host and former MTV VJ, Matt Pinfield, has been hospitalized following a massive stroke on January 6. The 63-year-old's health emergency followed his prolonged battle with various health issues, including past substance abuse and heart problems.
Pinfield first rose to fame in the 1990s on MTV, where he hosted the influential alternative rock show "120 Minutes." His encyclopedic knowledge of music and charismatic personality made him a staple in the rock scene, eventually leading to roles as vice president of A&R at Columbia Records and various gigs on radio and TV programs nationwide.
His recent stroke has prompted his daughter, Jessica Pinfield, to file a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court for temporary conservatorship over his finances and medical care. According to court documents, Pinfield has been deemed "incompetent to make health and/or financial decisions" following his stroke.
Various radio stations and music industry colleagues have expressed their support for Pinfield. Los Angeles station KCSN, where he hosted a daily show, wrote on Facebook, "We fully support Matt and hope to have his energetic rock n' roll knowledge back on the air soon." Hard rock band Living Colour and alternative rocker Pete Yorn also took to social media to share their well wishes.
This isn't the first time Pinfield has faced severe health challenges. In 2018, he was hospitalized after being hit by a car, which resulted in a broken leg and multiple lacerations. He has also been open about his struggles with atrial fibrillation and the impact of medication overuse on his health.
Despite these setbacks, Pinfield has remained passionate about music. Mere hours before his recent stroke, he posted a message on Instagram expressing gratitude for his life and experiences.
"Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life-changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted," he wrote. "Here's to another week - another day- with an open heart and an open mind. Let's rock!"
As the music community continues to rally around Pinfield, hoping for his swift recovery, a hearing on the proposed conservatorship is set for February 6 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, and his fans eagerly await the day they can once again hear his voice on the airwaves.
