AceShowbiz - Since "Grimm" concluded its six-season run in 2017, diehard fans have longed for more stories from the Portland-filmed show. Now, those wishes are finally being granted as Peacock is developing a feature-length reboot, bringing the popular fantasy cop drama back to life.
Josh Berman, best known for his work on Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva," has been tapped to write and executive produce the "Grimm" movie. Joining him are the original series' showrunners, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, as well as original executive producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. The project is being produced by Milliner's Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television.
Details about the plot and cast remain under wraps. However, fans of the original series will recall the story centered on Portland Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt, portrayed by David Giuntoli, who discovers he is a Grimm - an ancient guardian tasked with maintaining the balance between humanity and the mythological creatures known as Wesen.
"Grimm" became a surprising hit for NBC, especially on Friday nights during its initial 2011-2012 season, and successfully ran for six seasons. The dark fantasy series wowed viewers by combining supernatural horror with procedural police drama, creating a unique and captivating genre blend.
The original cast also featured Silas Weir Mitchell as Monroe, a wolf-like Wesen and Nick's ally, and Russell Hornsby as Detective Hank Griffin. While the premise of the reboot is being closely guarded, there is speculation that the film will tie back to the original series.
Some reports suggest that David Giuntoli could reprise his role as Nick Burkhardt, though it is also possible that the focus might shift to a new Grimm and their conflict with the Wesen. With a movie budget, there's the potential for even more terrifying and visually impressive monsters drawn from mythology and fairy tales.
This marks the first significant revival of the "Grimm" universe since it wrapped up eight years ago. Previous attempts, including a proposed spinoff centered on a female Grimm in 2018, never advanced past the development stage. Yet, this new feature-length movie presents an exciting opportunity to expand the original show's world without disrupting its beloved ending.
Whether you're a longtime fan craving more "Grimm" content or a newcomer curious about this fantastical world, the upcoming movie looks set to offer a thrilling re-entry into the battle between Grimms and Wesen. In the meantime, you can rewatch the original series, available for streaming on platforms like Peacock and Amazon Prime Video.
