AceShowbiz - Jon M. Chu's highly-anticipated sequel to the hit Broadway musical adaptation "Wicked" has officially been titled "Wicked: For Good." This title is inspired by the iconic duet between Elphaba and Glinda, which explores the lasting impact of their frenemy relationship.
The second film will feature the return of Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, along with other cast members from the first film, including Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, and Jeff Goldblum. The screenplay was written by original Broadway book author Winnie Holzman and co-scribe Dana Fox, and the film is produced by Marc Platt.
The original "Wicked" film achieved remarkable success at the box office, grossing $525 million worldwide within a month of its release. It also became the highest-grossing movie ever based on a Broadway musical at the domestic box office and set numerous opening records.
Adapted from Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, "Wicked" tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West before her iconic portrayal in "The Wizard of Oz." The musical adaptation debuted on Broadway in 2003 and has enjoyed immense popularity ever since.
The first "Wicked" film received critical acclaim and Golden Globe nominations for both Erivo and Grande. The sequel promises to deliver even more magic and enchantment to audiences worldwide when it arrives in theaters on November 21, 2025.
