Elton John, who has become an iconic figure in the music industry, opens up about the emotional toll of his name change and how it left him feeling disconnected from his true self.

AceShowbiz - Elton John has become an iconic figure in the music industry, but behind the rock-star persona lies a story of self-discovery and emptiness. In a recent interview with "Good Morning America", the 77-year-old legend reflected on his decision to change his name from Reginald Dwight to Elton John.

John explained that he despised the "old-fashioned" name Reginald and its diminutive form, Reggie. In his quest for a unique identity, he crafted "Elton John" from the names of his bandmates at the time. However, he realized years later that this transformation had come at a price.

Before his historic performance at Dodger Stadium in 1975, John had an epiphany, "I put everything into my work and my art... and there was nothing underneath there. I was just a void." He had left behind his childhood persona, but deep down, "little Reggie was still inside of me."

This emotional void is explored in John's upcoming documentary, "Elton John: Never Too Late", which premieres on Disney+ on December 13. The film chronicles his 50-year career and the realization that fame and success could not fill the inner emptiness.

Meanwhile, the musician has been struggling with vision loss due to a severe eye infection over the summer. While he has been unable to attend many of the previews of the "Devil Wears Prada" Broadway musical, for which he composed the soundtrack, he has been able to listen to the production and expressed his appreciation.

Despite his health challenges, John remains optimistic. He credits music as a constant source of inspiration throughout his life and is determined to adapt to his new creative reality.
