J.J. Abrams' production company, Bad Robot, has closed a new two-year, non-exclusive film and TV deal with Warner Bros. after their previous five-year deal expired.

AceShowbiz - J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot productions has extended their partnership with Warner Bros. Television with a new two-year deal. This agreement marks 20 years of collaboration between the company and the studio.

The first Bad Robot pact with Warner Bros., signed in 2019, was a lucrative five-year, exclusive deal worth $250 million. However, with the recent changes in the entertainment landscape, including the economic downturn and the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger, the terms of the new deal have been scaled back.

Under the new agreement, Bad Robot's projects will now fall under a first-look arrangement, which provides Warner Bros. with first dibs on new content but does not bind Bad Robot to exclusively produce with the studio. This is a common practice in the industry, as overall deals become less common and first-look deals offer more flexibility for both parties.

Despite the decreased financial terms, Bad Robot has experienced success in recent months. Their series "Caped Crusader" premiered on Prime Video, and "Presumed Innocent" was renewed for a second season after a strong launch on Apple TV+. Additionally, Bad Robot released several documentaries and docuseries over the past summer.

Abrams' upcoming projects include "Duster" for HBO Max, as well as the mystery film "Speed Racer". On the film side, Bad Robot will release "Flowervale Street" in 2025. Abrams will also direct a mystery feature for Warner Bros. scheduled to begin production in early 2025.

J.J. Abrams' relationship with Warner Bros. began in 2006. Before signing the 2019 deal, Bad Robot was based at Paramount.
