Tim Burton discusses his stance on making sequels to beloved films, including 'Edward Scissorhands', and reveals his plans for future collaborations with long-time screen partner Johnny Depp.

AceShowbiz - Despite the recent box office success of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", director Tim Burton remains firm in his decision not to create sequels for certain iconic films, such as "Edward Scissorhands". At the Marrakech International Film Festival, he explained, "I didn't want to make a sequel to that because it felt like a one-off thing." Burton further stated that he feels the same about "The Nightmare Before Christmas".

However, when asked about the possibility of future collaborations with Johnny Depp, with whom he has worked on films like "Corpse Bride" and "[m=Sweeney Todd" Burton expressed optimism. "Well, I'm sure there will be," he said.

Burton emphasized the importance of collaboration in filmmaking, stating, "It usually has to be based on the project I'm working on. That's what film is all about. It's collaboration and bouncing ideas off the people around you."

Depp has recently made efforts to revive his career following a series of legal battles. Despite receiving mixed reviews for his recent films, he has remained active in Hollywood, appearing in films and fashion shows.

Burton also discussed his early days as an animator for Disney, admitting that he was not particularly skilled at first. However, he eventually found his voice and eventually gained the opportunity to direct movies. He expressed mixed feelings about his relationship with the studio, saying, "I have no bad feelings about the studio, but I do think my days are done. As studios get more and more corporate, I feel like there has been less room for people like me."

Burton has previously ruled out a sequel to "The Nightmare Before Christmas". stating that he values the integrity of the original film. Nonetheless, he continues to work on new projects and remains open to future collaborations with his frequent screen partner Depp.
