"Deeper," originally announced in 2016, has undergone numerous changes in its production team over the years. Written by Max Landis, the movie revolves around a disgraced astronaut exploring a newly discovered ocean trench, believed to be the Earth's lowest point. As he delves deeper, he encounters dark, supernatural forces that test his sanity.

The film has faced a turbulent journey, with multiple actors and directors, including Idris Elba, Gal Gadot, Kornel Mundruczo, and Baltasar Kormakur, attached and subsequently dropping out.

The screenplay itself was purchased by MGM for a substantial seven-figure sum, but its production stalled following allegations against Landis. With the project stuck in development hell for nearly a decade, its future seemed grim until Cruise signed a massive deal with Warner Bros. earlier this year. This agreement appears to have breathed new life into "Deeper," providing it the push needed to finally move forward.
